Empowering By Example

About Us

‘Just like us’ is a third sector organisation which was established in July 2009 in Milton, North Glasgow and today operates on a 2 day per week basis from dedicated premises at Colston Milton Parish Church. It was first constituted in January 2011 and now has charitable status (No. SC012939).

We provide a structured, 10 week spiritual based skills programme, delivered through peer group and one to one sessions, for adults of all ages who are suffering from mental health and addiction issues. Thereafter, support is available on an ongoing basis, tailored to meet individual needs.
The programme, which can be used for prevention or cure, is based on empowering participants with the necessary skills to challenge negative thoughts and behaviours in the present rather than focusing on the past. Study materials in the form of worksheets are provided to assist the process.

Throughout the programme, participants learn to take responsibility and start to control anger, thinking and moods, and become more accepting of other people. They develop tolerance and patience, feel less anxious and calmer, and learn to challenge negative thinking and, sometimes, suicidal feelings. They reduce reliance on prescribed medication and put boundaries in place without aggression They become aware of their thinking and behaviour and the effect these have on their whole being, feeling less self conscious, leading to more self esteem and confidence.
